When the Sakura Blooms | Life in Japan Episode 153

instagram

When Spring arrives in Japan, people move to new towns and begin new careers or start a new school. It is the turning of a page and beginning of a new chapter, a new phase in life to embrace. Yes, when you see the cherry blossoms about to bloom, you know changes are just around the corner. For us it means the kids moving on in school, changes at home, work and church. And all of it is perfectly symbolized in the blooming of the Sakura.

Hey Nate and Ruth! Would you guys ever consider doing a Q&A of your story? Eg. How you guys met, what you both do for work, your thinking behind moving to Japan etc? Love your videos and keep it up. A big fan!

I would love to see the Sakura bloom! How lovely to go to bed a stormy evening and waking up to such a beautiful day of spring. We actually had it similar here i Sweden. Several weeks with stormy, cloudy days and now we have such beautiful and sunny days. Spring has finally arrived here as well. Though we still can have snow fall until may in southern Sweden!

You should check out the new NHK Japan video The Schoolbag, there’s a woman near Tokyo who remakes Randoseru for kids like the twins that have started junior high into cool wallets, picture frames, etc.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize you were that close to Yokota base! Thank you for supporting our military overseas! My husband served for 21 1/2 years! We were stationed in Okinawa Japan. I would check out the festivals that they have on base they are usually really great!
