The reason I never got this app is that is uses a notification you only have 2 minutes to respond to. One of the best ways to not get sucked into social media is to turn off notifications and get out of the habit of checking your phone. I often don’t look at my phone for hours at a time while I focus on more important things, so this alone kills any chance of using the app for me
it’s so sad that the social media that harms us, gets us obsessed and addicted, is by its concept more successful than the one that brings us together
I also think there is a severe element of privacy. It’s hard to trust any social media harvesting your data when it makes you take random pictures during your day. At least with social media today, you can control what you’re comfortable with them seeing.
As a Gen Z person myself I can confirm that I don’t want to use Facebook, Snapchat or Instagram because they are all fake as you said. BeReal is just a different, more natural way to keep in touch with the people you know.
This may sound weird but how about having an “expert mode” where you have more time and more filters to create an “experience” of what happened throughout the day by periodically allowing you to take a small video and combining those into a sort of “best of” the day.
Could be a way to make more “professional”-like stories on the app…
At this moment I feel like YouTube is the only platform that is irreplaceable. More and more people are searching for an instagram alternative.

BeReal isn’t an entire platform, it’s just a really good feature that other platforms should use
I think the concept of this app is awesome, and It’s really fun to upload, plus there are actually hilarious images that you dont see elsewhere because theyre either too chaotic for other social medias or long videos that provide said context which most things can be funnier without.
